FACILITIES

To facilitate academic research and study, the Department equips each faculty member and student well with abundant resources. Each faculty member has his or her research room, which is equipped with a Pentium PC and a laser printer. Graduate students are distributed over 26 research rooms, each equipped with two Pentium PCs, and a laser printer. All research rooms are network-accessible. In addition to the libraries and computer centers supported by the University and the College, the Department has a computer laboratory, two research-oriented laboratories, an audio-visual hall, and a study room. The study room accommodates more than 60 students and provides students with an excellent studying place. The following is the detailed description of the sophisticated equipments concerning the laboratories.

Computer Laboratory

Hardware: 70 personal computers (Pentium III or Pentium IV) and 15 Pentium III notebook PCs are provided for students to use in this lab. In addition, an LAN formed by some NT servers and work stations are connected with the campus optical fiber network. Other equipments include color printers, two high-resolution scanners, two laser printers, one digital project film producer, digital cameras, one projec-tor, and five digital projectors. A broadcasting system with a digital screen is installed for teaching purposes. Each personal computer has a Norton reinstallation card inside to protect it from viruses.

Software: Software packages for operation systems, word processing, linear programming, quality control, statistical analysis, expert intelligence, artificial intelligence, database management, material flow control, and graphical drawing have been installed to meet teaching needs.

Room 61302

Hardware: The equipments in this lab include one IBM 230 server, one SGI workstation, one Acer Altos 9100 workstation, 10 Ultra workstations, one Acer Altos 9000 workstation, three Acer Altos 1100, one Unix workstation, 9 personal computers, HP laser printers, HP scanners, Sun Epson GT-9500 scanners, and color printers.

Platform: WIN 2000 server, WIN 2000 professional, Unix, and Linux.

Software:Word processing and database management.
